Shameless

November 1, 2016

Unemployment and being unemployed in itself brings about far too many socioeconomic factors from loss of confidence, identity, financial security and lifestyle to depression, weight loss or gain, isolation, feelings of failure and an overwhelming sense of shame. The impact on family life takes a serious toll especially during the holiday’s it is most evident. Having walked a mile or more in your shoes, I speak from firsthand knowledge. I encourage you not to wait and see what the employment landscape has to offer but rather inform and seek help from service providers, friends, family, and industry professionals. You are the main factor that determines how long you are unemployed. Begin again by taking action towards returning to work and tell everyone you know that you are looking for work. By taking these steps you kick shame out the door.

Food for thought! Did you know shame and feelings of shame are cripplers, limiting sense of self, a defeating shadow looming overhead that impedes progress, zapping energy, creativity, passion, and tenacity? Yes and the quicker you let go of and kiss shame goodbye, the sooner you remember Who You Are.

I leave you with this affirmation: “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.”

Good luck to you in your efforts to return to work.
